More than anything else, Nepal is best known for its mountains
and mountaineering. Nowhere else on earth can you find such
a high concentration of high snow-capped mountains and have
the opportunity to climb some of the highest peaks in the
world.
Of course, Mt. Everest immediately comes to mind when people
think of Nepal but what is less often known is that Nepal
is home to another seven peaks over 8000m and innumerable
others between six and eight thousand metres. Currently 326
peaks are available for expeditions with an additional 33
minor peaks being designated as 'Trekking Peaks'.
Trekking Peaks are up to 6600m in elevation - higher than
any mountain in North America. The title is an unfortunate
misnomer because most of the peaks on the list are significant
mountaineering challenges. Some, in fact, are technically
demanding and even dangerous; others are relatively easy 'walk-ups'
with great views at the summit.
